Shallow & Deep Foundations

We have a skilled team of operatives that are specialists in foundation works:

Shallow Foundations

- Strip footings (continuous footings)

- Pad footings (isolated footings)

Deep Foundations

- Pile foundations using driven or bored piles

- Caissons (drilled shafts) for heavy loads

We are well versed on the full spectrum of shallow and deep foundations works from setting out areas, to excavating trenches, constructing formwork, placing reinforcement, pouring concrete, levelling and finishing as well as any post pour activities such as formwork removal and backfilling.

Concrete Slabs

Similarly to the above, we also pour concrete slabs (or raft foundations) which are single, continuous concrete slabs that are reinforced with steel dowel bars or mesh.

They follow a comparable procedure to shallow and deep foundations but offer a more robust and versatile solution for larger structures and for challenging soil conditions.

A screed layer is also often used to create a smooth, aesthetic finish.

Steel Works

We provide a range of services that involve the use of steel works as a solution to higher structural integrity and longevity needs for substructures . Amongst other applications, steel is often used in reinforcement (rebar) installation and installation of steel piles.

We have skilled steel fixers that interpret drawings, cut and bend the steel to the required shapes and sizes and then correctly place and align the steel to the required standards and specifications. We also have operatives that are capable of using pile driver and pile cropping machinery to complete piling related works.

Block and Beam

Amongst our substructure works, we also offer block and beam installation. Primarily used in residential and commercial buildings, it involves the use of precast concrete beams and blocks to form the floor structure of these buildings. Our skilled workforce ensures that the beams and blocks are fitted and aligned correctly and apply any additional reinforcement or finishes.

Insulation

With foundations and footing works, insulation is often installed to enhance energy efficiency, prevent heat loss and provide moisture control. We install a variety of types of insulation but predominantly use foil-faced insulation and we have specialists that are experienced at cutting and fitting to ensure the job is completed to a high standard.

Crane and Scaffold Mats

We can also construct crane mats and scaffold mats for providing a stable platform for cranes, scaffolding and other heavy machinery to operate on site, they help distribute the load over a larger area and reduce ground pressure to prevent sinking or subsidence.

Our operatives achieve this by first clearing and levelling the area, followed by installing a base layer of either solid mats made of materials such as hardwood, composite or steel or by using a layer of crushed stone.

Layered Mats:

Interlocking/overlapping the mats helps with load distribution and prevents slipping, then additional layers can be installed if necessary. These mats are then secured using an anchoring method or by connecting the mats using bolts, cables or other connectors.

Stone Mats:

The stone or gravel layer is of a sufficient depth to withstand the expected load and is compacted using a plate compactor or a roller. This provides a safe and stable platform for the scaffolding to be erected.

Retaining Structures

Retaining walls have a range of applications and uses. They are critical to a variety of construction and landscaping tasks as they provide support and stability to soil, rock, sand and other materials to prevent erosion, stop deep excavations from collapsing, provide foundation support and can be used to manage water runoff.

We construct a variety of types of retaining walls including:

- Gravity retaining walls

- Cantilever retaining walls

- Sheet pile retaining walls

- Anchored retaining walls

- Gabion retaining walls (Gabion baskets)

- Mechanically stabilised earth walls

These retaining structures are vital to creating usable spaces in challenging environments and are an important part of how we operate safely and effectively.
